Last week we sent an application in to a local adoption agency. Today we got a letter stating our application was received and giving us RSVP info for the next orientation meeting in September. September is month 9 of our adoption journey. The adoption process can be quite long and the duration is unpredictable. We knew by pursuing things in a particular order, we were potentially prolonging our journey but it was important for us to do things in the way we were comfortable. I can't speak for Papa_D, but my attitudes towards adoption are ever evolving. I'm always learning more about how we can be better parents of an adopted child and how we can help our children have good lives.
The instructor of our baby care class gave us a list of items that we need to obtain and have on hand for a placement without notice. The list includes
bottles with slow-flow nipples
formula
newborn diapers
diaper wipes (sensitive skin)
receiving blankets
crib/cradle/bassinet with bedding
rear facing infant car seat
stretchy sleeper outfits
onesie t-shirts
hooded towels
washcloths
thermometer
diaper rash ointment
petroleum jelly
rubbing alcohol/cotton balls
baby wash
bottle brush
nail clippers
homecoming outfit
sling carrier
We have been collecting these items slowly and have many of them. As long as we can last until the grandmas get here, we should be ok!
We did contact an agency about a possible situation a couple of weeks ago, but once we got more information we found out we weren't a good match for that particular birthmom and baby. So we will wait until we find a better fit.

Is that crib/cradle/bassinett a one piece item or three separate items? How can I see what it is you want? Is it on your Babies R us registry? How about the rear facing car seat, is that different than the one I sent? I'm so confused!!!!

The crib/cradle/bassinett that we are getting is a one piece thing called a pack n play. I think it's on the Babies R Us registry. If not, it's on the Amazon registry. We're getting a crib too, but the pack n play will be for sleeping downstairs or in our room. The car seat that you sent works well for rear facing, so we should be able to use it for several months!

ReplyDeleteI keep a small registry at Amazon and Babies R Us. It's mostly duplicates but the stuff is usually cheaper at Amazon. I can't copy and paste here but if you search those sites with my name you should be able to find them. I'll post the links once we get a placement :)
